Treatment of Varicose and Spider Veins

We have seen great clinical success in treating varicose veins by utilizing a multi-modality approach.
1. Chiropractic Care:
Chiropractic care focuses on spinal adjustments and nerve function. It plays a role in improving overall circulation. Here’s how:

  • Pressure Relief: Proper chiropractic adjustments can alleviate pressure on nerves, allowing blood to flow more freely through the body.
  • Enhanced Circulation: By optimizing nerve function, chiropractic adjustments indirectly improve blood circulation, potentially benefiting varicose veins.

Acupuncture:

Recent research published in the Journal Phlebology in Dec. 2023 by Lin Liu, et al. followed 260 patients with Lower Extremity Varicose Veins and found that a course of acupuncture treatment demonstrated that 85% of the participants experienced excellent or good outcomes following treatment and 15% noticed medium improvement. At 1 year follow-up interview, 87% of participants reported excellent or good results and 13% reporting medium improvement. None of the 260 participants experienced poor or negative results. The following are some of the ways acupuncture helps:

  • Improved Blood Flow: Acupuncture enhances blood circulation, reducing the pooling of blood in affected veins and strengthening the one-way valves that may have weakened over time or following illness or injury.
  • Stress Reduction: Stress can exacerbate varicose veins. Acupuncture sessions help manage stress and promote relaxation.
  • Nodule Reduction: Acupuncture treatment decreases the size of nodules in muscle, skin and fascial tissues that cause a twisting and enlargement of veins in the lower extremities.

Infrared Light and Low Level Laser (Photo-Biomodulation):

A study of 411 participants in 34 control groups (Marianne Degerman of Sweden, et al. PLOS One in Sept. 2022) revealed that hard-to-heal lesions of the lower leg veins of patient’s in the group who received Photo-Biomodulation treatments (2x weekly), healed significantly faster than the other control groups. Photo-Biomodulation helps in the following ways:

Reduced Inflammation: Reduces inflammation around varicose veins.

Promotion of Healing: By stimulating cellular repair, it aids in healing damaged vein walls.

Self Care:

Self-Care Measures: Elevating legs, wearing compression stockings, proper hydration, lymph drainage, and regular exercise can help manage varicose veins.
